Let the Games Begin! --Ohio Governor Ted Strickland
Coming to CincinnatiUSA in 2012
First time ever in the United States...
Ever since 1988, about 5,000 choirs from more than 90 countries worldwide have been able to experience the unifying power of music at 89 events. More than 220,000 participants, over half of them children and young people under the age of 25, have visited the events since their founding. They sang and competed, learned from each other, celebrated their success and had unforgettable experiences. Their motto is "Singing together brings nations together". The idea of the World Choir Games originates from the effort to bring together people and peoples through singing, in peaceful competition. In this way the coming together of nations in the arts can be effectively and illustratively demonstrated and challenged.
Participation is the highest honor at each World Choir Games. Being the world’s largest choir competition, the World Choir Games inspires people to experience the strength of interaction, challenging personality and community equally by singing together. The World Choir Games are organized for amateur choirs from all over the world, no matter which continent they come from, which musical genres are represented in their repertoires or which artistic ambitions they have.
Every two years, choirs from all parts of the world come together to celebrate the World Choir Games to participate, to contribute one’s own performance, to compare to others and to experience the enthusiasm of singing together.
